Australian Society of Legal Philosophy

Annual Conference 2008

Call for Papers

The Society's next Annual Conference will be held at the Law School, University of Melbourne, from Friday June 13 (appox 12.30 pm) until Sunday June 15, 2008 (approx 12.30 pm).

Papers will be welcome on any  topic in legal philosophy (there will be no central theme this year). Those wishing to present papers should now send a note of the title, and a brief (100 word) summary, to me so that a program can be prepared. Please let me know by Friday, February 22.

International speakers expected to present papers at the conference include Professor Carol Gould, Director of the Center for Global Ethics and Professor of Philosophy and Government at George Mason University, and Professors Heidi Hurd and Michael Moore, joint Directors of the Program in Law and Philosophy at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The conference will include a book symposium devoted to Scott Veitch's recent "Law and Irresponsibility on the Legitimation of Human Suffering" (Hart Publishing, 2007). The commentators will be Prof Martin Krygier, Prof Andrew Goldsmith, Prof Ngaire Naffine, and Dr Patrick Emerton.

The conference will also include a celebration of Professor Tom Campbell's 70th birthday and of his enormous contribution over many years to the Society, and to legal philosophy in Australia.

I look forward to hearing from those of you who wish to present papers - Jeff.Goldsworthy@law.monash.edu.au

Best wishes,
Jeff
