Faculty managed internships

Students on beanbags

Monash University and the Faculty of Law have made a strategic commitment to the internationalisation of educational opportunities for our students. As such the Law School has developed a number of internships that will enhance both the personal and professional development of our students.

These are internships negotiated, advertised and managed by the Faculty of Law and developed via a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the organisation concerned. Students will be required to apply to the Faculty and meet a set of selection criteria which has been negotiated between the Faculty and the organisation involved. The application process may also involve an interview with the Director International, International Programs Officer and/or other appropriate members of the staff.

International Student Restrictions

International students are not currently permitted to undertake internships during semester due to visa restrictions*. However they may be eligible for internships that fall outside of the semester dates and may therefore apply for funding if they meet the eligibility criteria outlined above.

(*This is a Commonwealth Government policy which is currently under review in consultation between Monash International and the Department of Immigration, Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs)

NOTE: Some internships may have additional application criteria set out by the host organisation involved. Please see individual internships for details.

Application Process

In order to apply for a Faculty Managed Internship you must complete the appropriate internship application form  located on the Internship web page and submit it in hard copy with all appropriate documentation to the International Programs Officer located in Student Services office on level 1 of the law building, Clayton Campus.

NOTE: Different internship programs have different cut-off dates so please see the appropriate internship for eligibility criteria, funding and all relevant dates.

Student Travel Fund

The Student Travel Fund (STF) provides financial support for Faculty managed internships that are located interstate or overseas. The STF does not fund internships located in Victoria.

The STF policy has been developed to maximise the number of grants available, taking into account regional location and expected travel costs for the internship.

Students are required to fund any additional travel, living, insurance and accommodation expenses not covered by their grant.
