Expected Costs

If you are planning to participate in the Prato program, the following list of costs are indicative only and may assist you with budgeting. 

Flight

Flights range from $1800 to $2200.

Insurance

Range from $350 to $530.

Accommodation

The majority of students spent between $500.00 and $850.00 per month based on accommodation for 3-4 people. There are however places that accommodate up to 8 people.

There is now an inexpensive accommodation option available in Prato. Calamai Riverside Apartments offer beds on a multishare basis in brand new apartments for approx $40 a day. For more information and bookings go to their website.

Daily Expenses

Food

Ranged between $150-450 per week.
Cooking at home: $23.00 per day
Dinner out: $40-45
Lunch out: $14-18

Travelling

Daily travel between Florence and Prato $5, or $18 per week (or $55 per month).

Most train trips around Northern Italy cost: $85.
$50 to Venice.
$240 flight to Paris.

Miscellaneous

Ranged between $20 to $40 per day.

Sending Equipment

Sending a laptop can vary depending on the courier.  It can cost up to $250.00.

*Please note - When completing the courier consignment note, be aware that the value you put for your computer for insurance purposes will be used in Italy to calculate customs charges (in euro) to bring the item into the country. This is payable when the computer arrives in Prato and can become very expensive (up to 300 euro).
