Student Travel Fund (STF) Discretionary Grants
In order to be eligible to apply for an STF Discretionary Grant you must first have your internship endorsed by the Faculty and you must meet the student eligibility criteria.
Please note, faculty endorsement of your internship does not guarantee you funding.
Discretionary Funding Available
Discretionary grants will normally be in the range of $500 (minimum), $1000, $1500 or $2500 (maximum) according to the location of the internship, the number of applications, any additional host organisation support and the availability of funds in the Student Travel Fund. Where the number of applications exceeds the available funds, applications will be ranked in order of merit by the Director International.
Discretionary Grant Application
Students applying for a Discretionary Grant must undertake the following:
- ensure the internship has been endorsed by the faculty or that you have attached all relevant documentation to your application form
- provide evidence in writing (letter or email) from the host organisation confirming your place as an intern
- provide a completed application form and all supporting documentation. Students applying for both an STF Discretionary Grant and an STF Equity Grant at the same time will be required to complete two separate application forms and submit appropriate documentation to support each application
- STF applications must be received by the Faculty International Programs Officer no later than 4 weeks prior to internship commencement date (unless otherwise negotiated with the International Programs Officer and/or Director International)
- agree to complete a student internship report form outlining the internship experiences and agree to participate in a small number of marketing and promotional activities for the Faculty which may include the publication of a student profile (with photograph and quotes). This is subject to negotiation with the Faculty Marketing Manager
- applicants who must withdraw from an internship program for unforeseen circumstances must contact the International Programs Officer in writing with a full explanation and refund all grant money from the STF back to the Faculty (where non-refundable deposits have been made, it is at the discretion of the Director International to wave refund of these costs)
- unsuccessful applicants will be notified (phone and/or email) and any queries must be directed to the Director International
Note: Grants should be used in the first instance to cover travel costs, followed by insurance and accommodation costs if funds permit, unless you have made other arrangements with the International Programs Officer or Director International.
Approval Procedures
All applications must be submitted in hard copy to the International Programs Officer located in the Student Services office on Level 1 of the law faculty (building 12), Clayton Campus.
- STF Discretionary Grant applications that do not meet selection criteria or are incomplete will be rejected and returned to the student immediately. Incomplete applications may be corrected and resubmitted if time permits
- eligible applications will be considered by the Director International who may consult other appropriate Faculty staff in order to approve and allocate funds
- the International Programs Officer will contact all successful and unsuccessful students via phone and/or email and will also send a copy of all approved applications to the Faculty Finance and Resources Manager
