The reform of Australia's superannuation tax laws

Dr Stephen Barkoczy - Associate Professor, Monash Law School

Professional development lecture

In the 2006 Federal Budget, the Treasurer announced major reforms to Australia's superannuation system. In general, these reforms are planned to apply from 1 July 2007. The proposed changes represent some of the most radical reforms to the superannuation laws for more than two decades and provide significant retirement planning opportunities.

This lecture will discuss the history of superannuation in Australia and the tax concessions that drive superannuation investment. The lecture will focus on the proposed changes to the law and will reflect on tax and retirement planning opportunities.
