Entry requirements

Entry to the PDLP is assessed on academic merit (this is based on ‘% Grades’ from the completed online application form).

Please note, entry to the PDLP is a competitive process and the actual grade average required for admission depends on the number and standard of applications received for each intake.

Applicants must have completed a recognised tertiary qualification in law (usually a Bachelor of Laws), including the ‘Priestley 11’ units required by the Council of Legal Education (CoLE) required for admission to practice in Victoria.

Students who have not completed the ‘Priestley 11’ units required for admission to practice in Victoria can undertake these units through Monash Law School. To apply for these units, simply complete a single unit application form [PDF], and submit with your academic transcript and a letter from CoLE stating which units you are required to complete.

Further information on single units required for admission to practice in Victoria.

Note: While Monash Law may recognise qualifications for entry to the PDLP, it is the Council of Legal Education (CoLE) who determines whether particular Australian or international tertiary qualifications will satisfy the rules for admission to practice in Victoria. Accordingly, it is the responsibility of all persons who wish to practise law and are seeking entry to the PDLP to ensure that their tertiary qualifications comply with Rules 2.01 to 2.02 of the Legal Practice (Admission) Rules 1999, prior to lodging their application for the PDLP. Any undergraduate units required to be completed as specified by CoLE must be undertaken and completed satisfactorily prior to enrolment in the PDLP.
