Sir John Barry Chair of Law Professional ProfileProfessor C R (Bob) Williams is a graduate of Monash University and Oxford University. He graduated from Monash B Juris in 1967 and LL B with first class Honours in 1969. He shared the Victorian Chief Justice’s Supreme Court Prize for top LL B graduate. After completing articles he read for the degree of Bachelor of Civil Law at Magdalen College, Oxford, graduating with first class Honours in 1972. He returned to Monash as a lecturer in that year, and was subsequently appointed Senior Lecturer and then Reader in Law. He was appointed to the Sir John Barry Chair of Law at Monash in 1987. Professor Williams served as Dean of the Faculty of Law at Monash from 1988 to 1998. He was awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws by Monash University in 2002. Professor Williams' main areas of interest are Criminal Law, Evidence and Law and Psychiatry. He has published widely in journals both in Australia and overseas. His major books are Property Offences 3rd ed (Law Book Co 1999), Evidence Commentary and Materials 6th ed, with P K Waight (Law Book Co 2002) and Criminal Law Text and Cases 10th ed, with L Waller (Butterworths 2005). Professor Williams' professional appointments include Member, Mental Health Review Board; Member, Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, Guardianship List; and Assistant Editor (Criminal Cases), Victorian Reports.
