Undergraduate Entry Requirements and Admissions

Graduates

If you have completed an undergraduate or higher degree at any tertiary institution, including Monash, in the last ten* years you can apply for entry into the Bachelor of Laws. Applicants will normally:

  • be ranked according to the average of ALL the results in their last five years of tertiary level study, irrespective of discipline;
  • have obtained better than a distinction average (70%+) in their tertiary studies for consideration for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP);
  • have obtained better than a credit average (60%+) in their tertiary studies for consideration for a full-fee paying place

NOTE: Averages quoted are minimum entry criteria to be eligible for admission. Entry to law courses is a competitive process & the actual average required will depend on the number and standard of applications received each year.

Graduate applicants may be given up to 36 credit points (approximately one year of full-time equivalent study) for prior learning, which effectively means they will be able to complete the LLB in three years of full-time study instead of four (part-time study is available but will take longer to complete).

*Graduates who completed their degree more than 10 years ago should contact the Law School directly to see if they are eligible for admission.

How to apply

2008 Entry

Australian and New Zealand citizens, Australian Permanent Residents and holders of an Australian Permanent Humanitarian visa must apply through VTAC. The application form is contained in the VTAC Guide to Tertiary Courses available each year in July, or students can apply online via the VTAC website. Applications should be lodged with VTAC by the advertised closing date in September. VTAC acts as a receiving centre for all applications, and offers places at the direction of the participating institutions, but selection and enrolment is carried out separately by each institution.
