Undergraduate Studies: International Entry Requirements

To enter the Monash University Bachelor of Laws, international students must satisfy the academic performance, English language proficiency and age requirements of the University.

Bachelor of Laws (LLB) A very high level of performance in English, either as a secondary school subject, or as a result from a recognised English language test is required.
Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Laws A very high level of performance in English, either as a secondary school subject, or as a result from a recognised English language test is required.
Bachelor of Business (Banking and Finance) / Bachelor of Laws Mathematics (Year 12 equivalent). A very high level of performance in English, either as a secondary school subject, or as a result from a recognised English language test is required.
Bachelor of Business Systems / Bachelor of Laws Mathematics (Year 11 equivalent). A very high level of performance in English, either as a secondary school subject, or as a result from a recognised English language test is required.
Bachelor of Commerce / Bachelor of Laws Mathematics (higher level Year 12 equivalent). A very high level of performance in English, either as a secondary school subject, or as a result from a recognised English language test is required.
Bachelor of Engineering / Bachelor of Laws Mathematics and at least one of Chemistry or Physics (Year 12 equivalent). A very high level of performance in English, either as a secondary school subject, or as a result from a recognised English language test is required.
Diploma of Psychology / Bachelor of Laws A very high level of performance in English, either as a secondary school subject, or as a result from a recognised English language test is required.
Bachelor of Music / Bachelor of Laws A very high level of performance in English, either as a secondary school subject, or as a result from a recognised English language test is required.
Bachelor of Performing Arts / Bachelor of Laws A very high level of performance in English, either as a secondary school subject, or as a result from a recognised English language test is required.
Bachelor of Science / Bachelor of Laws A very high level of performance in English, either as a secondary school subject, or as a result from a recognised English language test is required.

Note: Applications for the Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Performing Arts, and the Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Laws are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

English Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate a very high level of performance in English, either as a secondary school unit, or in a recognised English test.

The following English requirements apply:

  • IELTS 6.5 with no individual band score less than 6.0; or
  • TOEFL 580 with a TWE of 5; or
  • computer based TOEFL 237 with an Essay Rating (ER) of 5; or
  • previous studies where English was the language of instruction for a minimum of one year. Studies must have been completed no less than two years ago.

Graduate Entry Requirements

Monash Law School accepts a number of mature-age students each year. We encourage suitably qualified graduates to apply for our undergraduate Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Applicants seeking entry into the LLB who have completed an undergraduate or higher degree will normally:

  • have undertaken a standard full-time workload during their tertiary studies;
  • be ranked according to the average of ALL the results in their last five years of tertiary level study, irrespective of discipline; and
  • have obtained at least a ‘credit’ grade average (averages are calculated across all tertiary studies, irrespective of discipline).
