Module Descriptions


Module 1: Overview

In this Module you will get an overview of the criminal justice system from the set up of the courts to the legislation that governs their operation.

Module 2: Pre arrest issues

In this Module you will cover the key issues that need to be dealt with, both before and at the time of the arrest. You will also examine the role of the solicitor and the police plus the client's rights and responsibilities during the investigative phase.

Module 3: Court applications (1)

In this Module you will look at the court applications that often occur early in a proceeding, particularly bail applications and pleas of guilty. You will examine the criteria for these applications and look at how to put an appropriate submission together.

Module 4: Common offences

In this Module you will explore typical offences that you may have to deal with, such as driving offences and drug offences.

Module 5: Court applications (2)

In this Module you will examine the process of the committal hearing, its importance in the criminal justice system, its objectives and your role within this process. You will also look at sentencing and the place of sentencing within the system.
